Set in 1933, 42nd Street
tells the story of a humble, young actress named Peggy Sawyer who
has come to audition for a new Broadway musical,'Pretty Lady'.
Unfortunately, Peggy
arrives to the audition late and misses her chance to join the
chorus. Luckily, Peggy soon catches the eye of the show's famous
director, Julian Marsh, and he gives Peggy her big break.
However, the show's leading
lady, Dorothy Brock, quickly grows to dislike Peggy.
On opening night, Ms. Brock
falls and breaks her ankle. Julian Marsh announces that he will
close the show for good, but the cast won't give up, they think that
Peggy can save the show and convince Julian that she should be given
the lead role.
In
only thirty-six hours, Peggy learns twenty-five pages, six songs and
ten dance numbers. The curtain opens on 'Pretty Lady' the show is a
fabulous hit and Peggy Sawyer is a sudden sensation.
